Cathay Pacific Airways was founded in Hong Kong in September 1946 by American Roy C Farrell and Australian Sydney Kantzow. The airline was initially based in Shanghai but later moved over to Hong Kong. Cathay Pacific Airways is a Hong Kong based international airline now, offering scheduled cargo and passenger services to more than 90 destinations around the world. Cathay Pacific is among the world's most profitable airline (net profit) and largest airline by stock market value. The airline initially operated flights on Manila, Bangkok, Singapore and Shanghai.
Cathay Pacific Airlines currently flies to 115 destinations around 36 countries and territories around the world. Some popular locations include the United States, Europe, Thailand, China, and Australia. In India, Cathay Pacific Airways flies from Delhi and Mumbai. Cathay Pacific Airways have been recognized for setting the industry standard for service, winning over 100 awards. In 2005, Cathay Pacific Airways was voted “Airline of the Year” in the world’s largest passenger poll conducted by Skytrax Research. It was followed by 'Airline of the Year 2006' by Air Transport World magazine.
At the 2007 TTG Awards, Cathay Pacific got the prestigious Airline of the Year honor as well as being named as the Best North Asian Airline. The awards are voted for by the readers of TTG Asia and its various offshoots and are given to "excellent organizations of the travel trade within the Asia Pacific region that have shown strong commitment towards service excellence". The company also provides related services, including aircraft handling, airline catering, and engineering.
