The glamorous Kingfisher Airlines is one of the best airlines from India to rule the skies. The carrier is also part of the limited elite circle of airlines that have won the five star rank from Skytrax. Founded by the celebrated colourful industrialist Mr Vijay Mallya, the airline is a hallmark of perfection and glamour and is based at the ultra modern Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport at Mumbai. It has secondary hubs at the Bangalore and New Delhi airports as well. In the domestic segment, the airline offers three classes of cabins namely Kingfisher First, Kingfisher Class, and Kingfisher Red, while the two classes in the international sector are Kingfisher First and Kingfisher Class.
Route Network
Kingfisher Airlines is supposed to be the largest domestic airline in India and serves more than 55 cities across the Indian Subcontinent. In addition, the airline offers scheduled international services to destinations scattered across Hong Kong, Thailand, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, the UAE, and the UK. The airline is also all set to join the elite oneworld alliance.
Fleet Information
Kingfisher Airlines presently operates a modern fleet of about 66 aircrafts. In addition, there there are outstanding orders for numerous other planes. Its fleet network includes the A330, A321 (Dual Cabin), A321(Single Cabin), A320(Dual Cabin), A320(Single Cabin), A319, ATR 72-500, and ATR 42-500. The outstanding orders also include the sensational Airbus A350-800 and AirbusA380-800 aircrafts.
Baggage Information
In accordance with the safety regulations laid down by the Government of India, Kingfisher Airlines entitles passengers to a single piece of hand baggage. The dimensions of the hand baggage in terms of L+B+H for passengers flying aboard Airbus aircrafts should be within 55+35+25 = 115 cm. Similarly, travellers flying with the ATR aircrafts need to ensure that dimensions of their hand baggage stays within 50+45+20 = 115cms. The maximum weight limit for hand baggage is 7 kg. There is a free check in baggage policy for travellers taking flights operated by the airline within Indian boundaries. Kingfisher First passengers get a free check in baggage allowance of 30 kg, while Kingfisher Class and Kingfisher Red passengers can check in 20 kg of free baggage.
Lost Baggage Services
Kingfisher Airlines uses the computerised WorldTracer system for searching lost baggage. More than 400 airlines across the planet rely upon this tracing system to locate lost baggage. Passengers, who lose their baggage can keep themselves updated on the progress of the search by visiting the WorldTracer website.
Roving Agents
Kingfisher Airlines holds the distinction of being India's first airline to offer the facility of Roving Agents for passengers without check in baggage. Such passengers are not required to queue up at the check in counter for their boarding pass. Instead, Roving Agents equipped with a mobile digital device and printer help passengers to check in. Travellers also get the chance to pick their favourite seats. These agents are stationed outside the Security check-in zone.
Frequent Flyer Programme
Kingfisher Airlines is well known for King Club, its highly celebrated loyalty programme. There a are four tiers of membership, namely King Red, King Silver, King Gold and King Platinum. Every tier offers a world of benefits to its members.
