Originally established as solely domestic airline, Air Astana was founded on 29th August 2001. The airline commenced its operations on 15th May 2002. In January 2012, Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation praised it for its performance describing that this airline has performed greatly in first decade of its operation and proved to be more than just a start-up carrier.
Based in Almaty, Air Astana is the main airline and the flag carrier of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The airline has its main hub at Almaty International Airport and its secondary hubs are at Astana International Airport and Atyrau Airport. Baggage allowance in Air Astana is limited by cabin class and destinations of the flight. Generally, checked baggage allowance for Air Astana flights in Business Class is 30 kg and in Economy Class is 20 kg. Passengers of Air Astana are also allowed to carry cabin baggage of maximum dimension 55 x 40 x 20 cm and maximum weight 8 kg in Economy Class. Passengers of Business Class may carry 2 pieces of cabin baggage having a combine weight of maximum 18 kg.
