Founded in 1945 as a department of the Iraqi State Railways, Iraqi Airways started its operations on 28th January, 1946 using five De Havilland Dragon Rapides on a service to Syria. By the support of the British Overseas Airways Corporation, the airline ordered three Vickers Viking aircrafts that were delivered in last months of 1947.
Presently, Iraqi Airways is the national carrier of Iraq. Headquartered on the grounds of Baghdad International Airport, it is among the oldest airlines of the Middle East. Iraqi Airways is also a member of the Arab Air Carriers Organization.

Iraqi Airways baggage allowance varies as per the cabin class and sometimes the airport where you are flying to. Baggage allowance of checked baggage in Iraqi Airways should be limited to 30 kg in Economy Class and 40 kg in Business Class. Passengers are also allowed to carry a luggage of 7 kg as carryon/cabin baggage. For excess baggage, extra changes will apply.
