On 1st August 1951, Japan Air Lines Co. Ltd. was founded with the government of Japan by indentifying the requirement of a dependable air transportation system to help Japan grow post World War II. The initial capital invested in the foundation of airline was ¥100 million and its headquarters was set in Ginza, Chūō, Tokyo. Leased from Philippines Airlines, the airline operated invitational flights on a Douglas DC-3 Kinsei between 27 and 29 August 1951. On 25th October 1951, the first post-war domestic airline operation of Japan was commenced, using a Martin 2-0-2 aircraft. Its crew was leased from Northwest Airlines.
At present, Japan Airlines is headquartered in Shinagawa, Tokyo, Japan. It is the flag carrier of Japan and its main hubs are located at Narita International Airport, Tokyo International Airport, Kansai International Airport and Osaka International Airport.
