Established by the government of Kenya on 22nd January 1977 after the suspension of East African Airways, Kenya Airways commenced its operations on 4th February, 1977 using two Boeing 707–321s leased from British Midland Airways. Until April 1995, the airline was completely part of the Government of Kenya but it was privatized in 1996 and became the first African flag carrier to do this effectively. Presently, Kenya Airways has its head office located in Embakasi, Nairobi.
The main hub of the airline is at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. As of January, 2013, the airline is widely considered as one of the leading Sub-Saharan operators and has been ranked 4th among the top10 airlines of Africa.

Baggage allowance in Kenya Airways flights depends on the cabin class & the destination you have chosen for traveling. Passengers traveling in Business class are allowed to carry 2 pieces of checked baggage of 32 kg each in weight and passengers traveling in Economy Class can carry two pieces of checked baggage of 23 kg each. Infants not occupying seats are allowed for a baggage of 10 kg. At some destinations, including Europe and intra Africa, baggage allowance is limited to 40 kg in Business Class and 30 kg in Economy Class.
