With oil boom of the 1940s, Kuwait National Airways was born as a national carrier in 1954. At first, the airline operated services at limited destinations like Abadan, Beirut, Damascus and Jerusalem. After a year, the carrier started facing economic hardship, and the government of Kuwait took its 50% interest. This year, a 5-years management deals was signed with British International Airlines (BIA) in order to get maintenance and charter flights. The airline commenced operations on 16th March 1954 and on July 1955, the name Kuwait Airways was accepted.
At present, Kuwait Airways is the national airline of Kuwait and it head office is located at grounds of Kuwait International Airport, Al Farwaniyah Governorate. From its main hub at Kuwait International Airport, the airline operates its services to Middle East, Europe, Asia and North America. Kuwait Airways is an honorary member of the Arab Air Carriers Organization. Free checked baggage allowance in Kuwait Airways flights are 40 kg in First Class, 30 kg in Business Class, and 20 kg in Economy Class. Each of them is allowed to carry two pieces of luggage in 158 cm in dimension. The free checked baggage for infants should be not more than 10 kg. One carry-on baggage is also allowed per passenger and its weight should not exceed to 7 kg.
