The name of the airport is kept on Bharat Ratna Dr. "Babasaheb" Ambedkar, the main creator of the Indian Constitution. The airport is also known as Sonegaon Airport. The airport can handles about 4,000 passengers every day. Spread across an area of 1,460-acres, the airport also serves as home to AFS Nagpur of the Indian Air Force and Nagpur Flying Club. The airport’s new integrated terminal building was inaugurated on 14th April, 2008 to accommodate the increasing passenger traffic of the city.
