About Madurai Airport: Madurai Airport is a customs airport serving to the holy city of Madurai in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The airport was founded in 1957. It was earlier recognized as one of 35 non-metro airports for upgrading, and therefore a new integrated terminal building was founded on 12th September 2010. The first commercial international flight commenced on 20th September 2012 by SpiceJet through its maiden service to Colombo. The second international flight from Madurai was also of SpiceJet that flied for Dubai on 22 November 2013. The airport got permit to handle Cargo on 28th May 2013 by the Department of Revenue under the Union Ministry of Finance.
Madurai Airport has two adjacent terminals. The integrated terminal of the airport is being used for serving both the domestic and international airlines. The old terminal is used for cargo services.
