About Silchar Airport: Located in Silchar in the Indian state of Assam, Silchar Airport was built by the British in 1944. It is a civil enclave as well, which works under the control of Indian Air Force. Situated at an altitude of 338 feet above the sea level, the airport is spread over an area of 36.70 acres. It is situated on the foothills of the Barail range and supposed to be the 4th busiest airport in North-East region of India followed by Guwahati, Agartala and Imphal. The airport handles up to 230,000 passengers during a year. There is also plan to set up new integrated terminal at the airport.
Being a prominent airport of north-east region of India, the airport is connected with rest of India through various airlines. At present, two airline brands are operating from Silchar Airport, including Air India and JetKonnect.
Silchar Airport is surrounded by tea gardens and passengers can enjoy their stunning views during landing and taking off of the flights. The airport is equipped with Instrument Landing System and Night landing facility. It has one domestic terminal, which is equipped with modern facilities. The terminal has 4 check-in counters along with one boarding gate. It can handle 150 passengers each at arrival and departure section. Luggage trolleys are provided to carry luggage conveniently and special facilities are available for senior citizens and physically challenged persons.
