The Drass War Memorial:
Also known as 'the Kargil War Memorial', is the major tourist attraction in Drass. It is
located on the Srinagar-Leh Highway. This structure is erected to commemorate the
sacrifice of Indian soldiers who lost their lives during the Indo-Pak war, defending a
barren and desolate landscape. This memorial has a very nice gallery that dilates the
scenes from the blood battle. Further, the stunning view of the Tololing Range at the
backdrop is worth a capture. Kargil Vijay Diwas, which is celebrated on 26 July every
year in the Kargil Drass sector, is a tribute to the Kargil War Heroes.
Overlooking the beautiful Drass Valley, the Tiger Hill perched at an elevation of 5,353
meters, making it the highest point in the region. This hill is surrounded by the Tolloling
Range and other ridges that range from 5,000 to 6,500 meters. The Tiger Hill is another

Ladakh'. For centuries its inhabitants are believed to have negotiated this formidable
pass even during the most risky period in the late autumn or early spring, when the

trader's merchandise across and to help stranded travelers to traverse it.
The Puga Valley is popular for its hot water springs. Every year, hundreds of visitors
come to this valley for a bath in these springs as it is believed that these springs help
people suffering from skin diseases and rheumatism.
Other Activities to Enjoy at Drass:
Drass is a very suitable base for a 3-day long trek to Suru valley across the sub-range
separating the two valleys. The trek pass you through some of the most beautiful upland
villages and flower sprinkled meadows on both sides of the 4,500 meter high Umbala
pass that falls en-route. In addition, the trek to this holy cave of Amarnath in neighboring
Kashmir, which starts from Minamarg below Zoji La, takes 3 days and involves crossing
of 5, 200 meter high pass.
Best Time to Visit Drass
Due to its high altitude of the Drass valley, it is only hospitable during the summer
months. Also, it is the time when you can enjoy variety of adventure activities and
sightseeing of the age-old monasteries. The best time to visit here is during summer
season between May and September. On the other hand, winter months are too harsh
for travel in this place. Therefore, plan your Drass vacation accordingly.

You won't find many shopping options in Drass. But, you can buy the authentic
Pashmina, Kashmiri shawls and other common items from the local markets here. Also,

Buses plying between Srinagar and Kargil/Leh touch Drass. You must note that
local buses leave Kargil in the morning and afternoon for Drass. Srinagar is well-
