This lake is named after Karna, the legendary warrior and donor of the epic
Mahabharata. This lake is just 15 minutes drive away from the main city. It is a famous
tourist place and excellent place for picnic and boating.
Karnal Fort, also called as Old Fort has a chequered history. The fort was constructed
by Gajpat Rai, the ruler of Jind around 1764 A.D. Then, it was captured by the
Marathas, George Thomas and then by the ruler of Ladwa. Later on it was occupied
by the British forces. In the year 1805, the fort was transferred to Nawab of Karnal.
Presently, it is being used as the residence of the Tehsildar and other officials in Karnal.
Pukka Pul Near Karnal:
The Pukka Pul is located about 7 KM from the Karnal city. This beautiful place is
also called as the 'Sayad's Shrine' and is located near the Mughal Bridge. This tomb
is considered to have mythological powers of sending away the ghosts and curing
diseases. A fair is held every Thursday at this tomb.
Cantonment Church Tower:
Cantonment Church Tower is an ancient tower, located in the city. The height of this
tower is 35 meters and it is bordered by a big cross. This Church has been named after
St. James. In 1841 AD, the church was demolished after the shifting of the cantonment
Gurudwara Manji Sahib:
This Gurudwara is situated in the busy Sarafa Bazar in Karnal, around one kilometer
from the National Highway No.1 of the Grand Trunk Road. As per history, the first guru
of the Sikhs, 'Shri Guru Nanak Dev ji' visited this place in the year 1515 in the course of
his first religious journey called 'Udasi'. He was living in a garden where he was sitting
on a mound and singing hymns or shabads before a large gathering of devotees.
Kalandar Shah's Tomb:
Kalander Shah's tomb was constructed by Ghias-ud-din, Emperor of Delhi in the
memory of a Sufi sage named Bo-Ali-Qualander Shah. This tomb is sited just outside of
Karnal city on its eastern side. The Sufi saint was a highly respected man and revered
